Dr. Stelljes was born and raised in South Florida. It was her life long dream to become a veterinarian. She attended Florida International University for undergraduate and attended the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Hollywood Animal Hospital in Hollywood, FL., and joined our practice in 2004 as an associate veterinarian. As of Jan 2015, she is the proud owner of South Federal Animal Hospital.
Dr. Stelljes is a member of the Broward County Veterinary Medical Association, and the Florida Veterinary Medical Association. She has an interest in veterinary dentistry and has attended several post graduate courses to further her knowledge. Dr. Stelljes is married to her husband, Thomas, and have a son (Thomas Jr.) and a daughter (Jessica) together. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering at her children's school and going to the beach.
Dr. Meilan is a graduate of Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, he completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Henry Bergh Memorial Hospital in New York City. In 1974, Dr. Meilan joined our practice as an associate veterinarian, and was the owner of South Federal Animal Hospital up until January 2015. He is an active member and past officer of the Kiwanis Club of Fort Lauderdale, the Broward County Veterinary Medical Association , Florida Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association. Dr. Meilan has been married to his wife, Mayra, for 45 years, and they have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. His hobbies are photography (especially of wildlife), travel, and spending time in the Florida Keys.
Dr. Miyamoto was born and raised in Japan and moved to the US when she was 15 to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Her parents and family stayed in Japan while she attended boarding school in Danville, California. After her college counselor told her that it would be extremely difficult to get into veterinary school, she switched paths and majored in Digital Graphics. However, during undergrad, she couldn't stop thinking about being around animals so she attended Western Career College and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2004. She started to work as a weekend technician for a high volume emergency clinic in San Leandro, California. After completing undergrad, she took night classes to finish up prerequisite classes so she could attend veterinary school. She eventually made her dream come true and received her degree from Ross University.
Although she is a northern Cali-girl at heart, she discovered that she enjoys living in tropical weather and being close to the beach which Florida offers. The beach is where she goes to relax and rejuvenate! She currently has three cute kitties; Kuma (17yr), Melon (6yrs) and Tora (3yr) who all know how to do some basic tricks (sit, paw, and wait).
Following a career as a public school teacher for hearing impaired children in San Antonio, Texas. She returned to school and attained her DVM from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed a 1 year radiology internship which was created for her at Gulf Cost Veterinary Specialist in Houston, Texas. Following a 3 year radiology residency at Auburn University, she immediately passed her boards and became a diplomate of ACVR. She has lectured on many subjected from CT to special diagnostics imaging procedures, has a mobile ultrasound practice and is the owner/founder of Lighthouse Radiology.
Dr. McEwen lives with her husband and three "four-legged" kids in FL. Her special interest include abdominal ultrasound and MRI.
